Education and learning is a never-ending process with diverse approaches. One can achieve education through various full time courses, distance learning programs and corresponding courses. Distance learning program is the most demanding approach towards education that can achieved without any break in the career.

Distance learning is popularly known as open education and is defined as a way of learning from remote location and flexible time. This kind of learning is attributed with various features like electronic classrooms, computer aided instructions and audio-visual communications.

Distance Education is an age old concept of learning that is believed to have started in the western world. The advent of this concept came into picture with the need to create effectual human capital by abolishing the obstacles of physical accessibility, geographical location and time barriers. This need was further driven by population explosion, science and innovative technology.

Today, many distance learning programs have come into the educational arena including MBA, MMA, BBA, BBM, Advertising, Public Relation and Teacher Training. Many colleges and universities round the world have paved way for this kind of learning and education. In India, distance learning program became viable when Kothari D.S in 1964 suggested for the establishing Directorate of Distance Education in Delhi University. This establishment brought a major breakthrough in the educational system of India.

Thereafter, many colleges and universities in and around India started various correspondence courses for betterment of human capital. Open universities and institutes offering these courses have led to a paradigm shift from time-honored full time courses to flexible self learning courses. This system of learning also helps an individual to fight and win the real world competition.
Many of these curses are now available online. On line availability of various courses gives ability to students to learn and grasp at their own pace and time. They also provide opportunity to discuss and solve various study related problems through online tutorials.
The flexibility in course choices is also expanded for having broader range of qualifications. You will be amazed to hear that these days online foreign language classes are also conducted. These languages help an individual to raise his or her potential in the job market. French, being the international language of business, has wide range of online sources. Every street, area, country and various online sources are conducting French classes today.

However there are some drawbacks also. You cannot have face to face interactions or virtual communication with peers and tutors. You will have restricted social circle as you are not moving out and meeting new people belonging to different sections of the society. You also have limited access for tutor discussion as they are not available every time you want them.
Home learning can also be associated with distractions that can hamper the learning process. Quality of course materials and video conferences varies considerably from course to course.
There are disadvantages but none of advantages can be overlooked. So, if you are self motivated and eager to learn, then nothing can stop you gaining a degree or certification through distance learning program. Learn to face challenges and this concept of learning can be very rewarding and fruitful for your successful career.

Have you always wanted to be a pharmacy technician? Have you thought of going not only for the position but also as a professional? Well, what you need is to sit for the examination and gain an accredited certification. It’s not as hard as it may sound; all it takes is dedication and great effort.

A pharmacy technician is one who assist pharmacist with basic duties and task with the exception of giving out medical advice. They fill prescriptions, count pills, measure liquids; keep track of medication movement and so on. Basically it is fulfilling all office duties.

To land yourself a job with an average salary, you would need a little experience and learn the rest while on the job, but a pharmacy technician’s salary can hit bigger digits with a good examination score. If you are planning to sit for the exam, there are numerous ways to prepare for it.

First, explore all options then decide if you want to study online or offline and also under which institute. Once you’ve got that settled, start hitting the books. The complete score is divided into three parts, these are:

Assisting pharmacists in serving patients – 66%

Maintaining medication and inventory control systems – 22%

Participating in administration and management of pharmacy practice – 12%

As the examination contains 125 multiple choice questions, the given time is three hours. Aside from that, there are 15 pre-test questions which wouldn’t be included in the final score but you require getting them right as it serves as the foundation of your exam. When preparing for the examination, learn in full detail the three different components and study smart.

Make sure you do not let big words and the questions in abundance scare you. Before the exam, give yourself time to stay calm and focused, the last thing you’d need would be to panic.

In conclusion, it is not hard to pass the exam, just keep your mind on track and stay focused. Don’t get distracted and you would get that dream job of yours in no time.

On July 31, a major newspaper that serves the Greater Washington, D. C., area ran a story about an Internet-based “diploma mill” that operated out of Washington state. The organization, run by a 58-year-old woman and two members of her family, grossed $6 million from 1999 to 2005. It has now been shut down by Washington state officials, though others are believed to still exist.

The diploma mill sold college degrees from St. Regis University, Ameritech University and James Monroe University. It also sold counterfeit diplomas from George Washington University, the University of Maryland and Texas A&M University.

Young adults should be mindful of the problem of diploma mills as they prepare for college this fall. To protect themselves, they should deal only with institutions that have both regional and professional accreditation in their chosen field of study.

Generally, students are safe if they attend a college or university that has been accredited by one of the six major regional accrediting associations. In Virginia, that means the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. The names of the other accrediting associations are available from the U. S. Department of Education or from the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.

But regional accreditation is only a first step. Students must then determine if the school they will be attending has professional accreditation as well. That means that the school has passed a rigorous evaluation by professionals in the field. Some of the more common professional accrediting groups are:

Business. The accrediting organization for schools of business is the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. Fortunately, most of the major universities in Virginia meet AACSB standards. However some universities do not. If you are unsure, go to the AACSB web site and click on accreditation.

Nursing. The National League for Nursing Accreditation evaluates nursing programs throughout the United States. The organization “is nationally recognized by the U.S. Department of Education as the accrediting agency for postsecondary and higher degree nursing programs.”

Public Administration. Only four colleges in Virginia have undergraduate public administration programs that have been approved by the National Association of Schools of Public Affairs and Administration: the College of William & Mary, George Mason University, James Madison University and Virginia State University.

Liberal Arts. A recent addition to the list of accrediting organizations is the American Academy for Liberal Education. St. John’s College in Annapolis and Southern Virginia University in Buena Vista have been approved by AALE. Other major public universities throughout Virginia have excellent liberal arts programs that will soon be accredited by AALE.

Applied Science. The Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology is “the recognized accreditor for college and university programs in applied science, computing, engineering, and technology. . . [It] is a federation of 28 professional and technical societies representing these fields.”

Architecture. In my state, only three universities have been accredited by the National Architectural Accrediting Board to award Bachelor of Architecture degrees: Hampton University, University of Virginia and the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.

Education. The National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education is the “professional accrediting organization for schools, colleges, and departments of education in the United States. It is a coalition of over 30 organizations representing teachers, teacher educators, policymakers, and the public.”

Online programs. All students should be aware that accrediting organizations tend to look with disfavor on educational programs that rely exclusively on Internet technology. Some of these online schools have regional accreditation, but they cannot get professional accreditation because exams are open-book and unproctored. Further, students at such institutions often “share” the assignments and workload. Students may discover, to their chagrin, that a diploma from such a school is essentially worthless.
